The ongoing election campaign of Congress candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes received a big boost after Nuvem Sarpanch Freda D’Sa, wife of ex-Nuvem MLA Wilfred, and like-minded citizens from Nuvem coming out openly in support of the Congress candidate.

Freda and like-minded citizens, included the panchayat members from Nuvem constituency aligned to the ex-MLA Wilfred, were present at the INDIA bloc meeting convened at Majorda on Friday morning in support of Viriato’s candidature.

The development comes just two days after the ex-Nuvem MLA Wilfred and his supporters were spotted outside the South Goa District Collectorate when Viriato filed his nomination papers.

Freda told the media at Majorda that she and like-minded citizens from Nuvem constituency have come out in support of Capt Viriato given the Congress candidate’s track record of fighting for the issues facing the people of Goa. “Capt Viriato has fought to defend the people in the Kargil war. The onus now lies on the people to support him in the election. Capt Viriato had taken up so many issues affecting Nuvem including the track doubling project, coal transportation, nationalisation of rivers, etc,” she said.

The Nuvem Sarpanch said it is now the duty of everyone to vote and get Capt Viriato to the Parliament to bring about a revolution and to put an end to the injustices done by the BJP government.

Meanwhile, while addressing the meeting at Majorda, Capt Viriato called for unity amongst the people to save Goa from total destruction. He said Goa is being destroyed with the ill-conceived projects thrust upon the people by the government.
