The Borim Panchayat has come up with an innovative idea of acquiring Comunidade land available at Kalmamal-Borim to set up relief camps during disasters, and also to provide shelter to those whose land gets acquired for government projects.
The resolution in this regard was taken in the gram sabha held on Sunday.
The gram sabha presided by Sarpanch Bhavana Naik discussed various issues pertaining to Borim village. Secretary Kapil Naik was also present. Speaking to The Goan, Deputy Sarpanch Costancio Luis said that it was the need of the hour to think about acquiring Comunidade land for social purposes. “We passed this resolution so that Comunidade land can be used for good work. If anytime any disaster takes place, then affected people can be given shelter there and also if someone loses land for government projects, then they can be rehabilitated there,” Luis told.
This Comunidade land at Kalmamal sought by the panchayat is 52,000-odd square meters.
The villagers also discussed about the illegal construction of houses taking place in the area. “We have assured the people of action if there are written complaints,” he said.
Sources informed that though Borim village has its sizeable area under Comunidade, the land is encroached or sold by tenants. “The Comunidade land at Tamshire area is sold by tenants illegally. It can’t be sold. Now, houses have come up on this land. Authorities are not taking any action against these land dealers as politicians are involved in it,” one of the villagers said.
Villagers hailed the resolution at the gram sabha and felt the remaining land can be saved from land sharks and encroachment.
Borim panchayat also adopted a resolution to construct a children’s park near the ground at Kalmamal. Also, inauguration of this ground is likely to take place shortly.
