Former Old Goa sarpanch and current panch Nilkant Bhomkar has accused St Andre ZP member Dhaku Madkaikar, brother of power minister Pandurang Madkaikar, of assaulting him on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, Dhaku Madkaikar’s wife, Manda, has filed a counter complaint stating that Bhomkar had abused and threatened Madkaikar.
In a police complaint, Bhomkar has stated that Madkaikar along with his nephew assaulted him with fists, blows and kicks after the end of UTAA meeting at Carambolim.
“After the end of UTAA meeting, the duo came up to me and started assaulting me without any reason. Madkaikar, in fact, questioned me whether I want to organise ST meetings and also whether I want to contest elections,” Bhomkar informed, while stating that the counter-complaint registered against him was false.
When contacted, Dhaku said the issue is being settled. “UTAA members are in contact with me to settle the issue,” Madkaikar informed and added that he has also spoken to Govind Gaude on the issue.
Meanwhile, UTAA president Namdev Faterpekar, convenor Ravindra Gaonkar and secretary Vishwas Gaude have all asked for a thorough investigation by the Old Goa police as they said it was an unprovoked assault on Bhomkar.
“The incident occurred after the ST awareness meet got over, which is very unfortunate. Bhomkar did not utter any word against anyone nor did he make any political statements,” Faterpekar informed, while demanding that the culprit be brought to book.
“UTAA delegation has met the police and asked for a thorough inquiry in the matter. The meeting was organised to create awareness on ST schemes. There was no political agenda,” said Faterpekar and informed that the UTAA is supporting Bhomkar.
ST/SC Commissioner Prakash Velip also paid a visit to Bhomkar at his residence.
When contacted, police sources said an FIR has been registered in both the cases and Old Goa police is investigating the matter.
