The national Congress on Saturday slammed the government in Goa led by an ailing Manohar Parrikar, alleging that the government was actually being run by unseen and unelected faces behind the scenes, only using Parrikar’s name to clear files.
Addressing media persons at the Congress headquarters, Congress national spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “The CM’s deteriorating health cannot be justification for unelected and unseen faces to usurp power in the state.”
Surjewala alleged that all the files that are being cleared in the Chief Minister’s name are illegal as they are being done without his signature, and merely on account of his “verbal” authorisation.
“How are you running this government?” demanded Surjewala, even as he asked why the CM was refusing to meet the Leader of the Opposition in Goa, and leaders at large, if he was fine, as is claimed.
The Congressman also asked why not even a single health bulletin had been issued by the CM’s doctors.
Surjewala alleged that it was these “unseen and unelected faces” who were looting the state and plundering its resources.
Meanwhile, the national party demanded that a special session of the Assembly be immediately convened.
Through this, the Congress would like the BJP to prove its majority, as well as settle contentious issues like CRZ, mining, unemployment and a host of other unresolved issues, said Surjewala.
He also pointed out that by this time, both allies and MLAs of the BJP had grown restless and were all speaking out against the current political impasse.
Speaking about the Goa governor Mridula Sinha, Surjewala said that her inaction was due to her being in cahoots with the government at the Centre.
“National leadership is holding the democratic set-up of Goa to ransom,” said Surjewala, adding, “The coterie running the state here is looting the resources of the state with complicity from Delhi. Responsibility starts with Narendra Modi and comes down to the bureaucrats in the state.”
Due to the inaction of the governor, the national Congress unit will put pressure on the president of India to resolve the situation, while they plan to also raise the issue in the winter session of Parliament.
When asked how the Congress couldn’t keep hold of its MLAs, Surjewala attributed the loss of two Congress MLAs to the “allure of money and top posts,” and that there was no other justification for the “annihilation and murder of the people’s mandate.”
MGP only demanded administrative charge, not CM’s post: Sudin
MARGAO : Public Works Department Minister Sudin Dhavalikar on Saturday said that MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar had only said that the charge of the administration should be given to him and not the post of Chief Minister.
Saying that he has no issues concerning the administration, Sudin reminded that the administration has to be run by the minister concerned, his secretary and the director, adding “if people have any issues concerning administration, they should bring their problems to the notice of the government”.
“Deepak Dhavalikar had never demanded to hand over the charge of the Chief Minister to me. It is wrong news given by the media. What he meant is that many ministers are complaining of the administration, the charge of administration can be given to me,” Sudin said.
To a question, he said, the people of Goa are aware of the political situation in the State due to the illness of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
“The coalition government is ruling the State for the last one year and half. We have been completing the promised works. Whatever work that has been taken up has reached the stage of completion. There’s no meaning to reports that the government is not working. Government is a continuous process, irrespective of who is the CM or minister,” he said.
Sudin, however, said that the expectations of the people have also gone up, but hastened to add that the government is capable of handling any issue.
