South Western Railways (SWR) Divisional Railway Manager Bela Meena has stated that a 26-km stretch in the Braganza Ghat section connecting Goa and Karnataka has been equipped with safety technology to prevent derailments.
She was speaking while presiding over the 38th meeting of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC). Members from various places including members from Goa attended the meeting conducted by the Hubballi Railway Division at Hubballi on Friday.
Presiding over the meeting, Meena highlighted the passenger-friendly initiatives and achievements of the Hubballi division which also comprises Goa.
She appreciated the DRUCC members for their active involvement and said they play a crucial role in bridging the gap between railway authorities and passengers.
She also informed that a 26-km stretch in the Braganza Ghat section connecting Goa and Karnataka has been equipped with safety technology to prevent derailments caused by natural calamities.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and DRUCC Secretary Santosh Hegde provided insights into various developmental works undertaken by the railway department. He mentioned that Indian Railways introduced QR-based payment system at ticket counters and stalls, UTS on mobile for purchasing tickets online.
Members discussed several key issues related to railway services and infrastructure. Topics included the need to improve basic amenities at railway stations, changes in train schedules, installation of sanitary napkin vending machines for women, introduction of new train services, construction of railway over bridges, and installation of coach position display boards.
Various other passenger-centric facilities were also deliberated upon to enhance the overall travel experience.
Thirteen DRUCC members representing elected officials, registered passenger associations, chambers of commerce and industry, traders’ associations, and differently-abled groups attended the meeting.
Additional Divisional Railway Manager T V Bhushan Chief Project Manager Sanjay Kumar, and other senior SWR officials were also present.
