Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has called for grassroots intervention by elected representatives to bring down the Covid-19 mortality rate saying it is not the sole responsibility of Goa’s medics.
Sawant urged panchas to go to their respective areas and identify people with Covid-symptoms and to ensure they test themselves.
He said the government was putting in efforts to ensure separate infrastructure for testing and vaccination by May 1.
“Please reach out to villagers with symptoms to get tested and hospitalised if they are positive,” Sawant said, while urging people to stay at home.
“We have to focus on testing. People stay at home out of fear. They need counselling. All representatives should reach out and urge them to go for testing,” Sawant said, adding that wearing masks, maintaining physical distance and refraining from crowding markets is a must.
The chief minister held a virtual interaction with village-level representatives from across the State and informed that vaccination drives will be shifted to premises of schools, most of which are now vacant and shut, from the current health centres.
