Lockdown termed as short to break chain

MARGAO
Chief Minister PramodSawant’s decision to impose four-day lockdown may be the subject for debate amongst citizens and the stakeholders, but healthcare workers say the four-day lockdown is not enough to break the COVID chain and to stop the virus spreading like wild fire.

The healthcare workers, however, welcomed the Chief Minister’s decision, hoping that the four-day lockdown may be extended to few more days before assessing the situation.

Both government and private health care workers, engaged in COVID management, said four-day lockdown will not give any appreciable results. “But, since the government has taken the decision in the right direction, let us welcome the lockdown for four days”, a senior government doctors told The Goan.

He added: “We  have been demanding a lock down for the simple reason to break the COVID chain. One way to break the chain is by keeping the people indoors. We feel that four days may not be enough to achieve the results. Any way, we will be able to assess the ground situation only on Monday”.

A private doctor, who is actively involved in the COVID management work, said the Chief Minister’s decision is indeed a welcome move, but hastened to add that four-day lockdown is a subject matter of debate. “Let us start with the four-day lockdown, then assess the situation and let the government take the further decision”, the doctor added.

Both government and private health care workers have been pleading for a lockdown as part of a strategy to contain the virus which has reached alarming proportions across the state.
