Breather for Navelim students as Std XII exam rescheduled

Principal says new date will be intimated later

MARGAO
Beleaguered students of the Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim got a temporary breather on Sunday as the school has rescheduled the Std XII first internal examinations, beginning on Monday, capping the row over the exam in offline mode for the moment.

The higher secondary Principal Victoria De Souza, however, told The Goan that the school will move the government on Monday seeking permission to hold the mid-exams in offline mode. She sent a clear signal that the examination will be conducted in offline mode as and when the permission comes from the government.

Till then, the classes will continue as usual.

“The management has decided to reschedule the offline examination scheduled from Monday in view of the Deputy Collector’s letter reminding of the requirement to obtain prior government permission to hold the examination in offline mode. We will approach the government on Monday seeking permission to hold the examination offline. The examination has been rescheduled and will be held till the time the government permission is given to the schools,”  Victoria said.

To a question, the school principal informed that the decision to reschedule the examinations, starting from Monday, has been communicated to the students. “The scheduled examination will not take place on Monday. We will announce the new schedule as and when we receive the permission from the government,” she added.

Though the Std XII students may get a breather after the school decision to reschedule the examination, sources informed that the they may have no option other than to answer the examination in the offline mode if the government grants permission to the school to hold the examination offline.

What forced the Rosary Higher Secondary school to reschedule the examinations in offline mode scheduled on Monday was the Margao Deputy Collector’s letter to the school and two other schools.

Meanwhile, the Collector’s order under section 144 of Cr PC was extended on Sunday.
