Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday inaugurated the bridge across Rua de Ourem Creek. While the first lane, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 8.5 crore, has been thrown open for vehicular movement, the work on the second lane is expected to be taken up soon.
With the construction of this bridge, a second entry to Panaji has been created catering to the areas of Mala, Fontainhas, Bhatlem and Taleigao, which is expected to reduce load on the existing Patto Bridge.
Speaking on the occasion, Parrikar said, "The government is marching ahead with proper planning and has initiated steps to strengthen the financial position of the state. Now the time has come to decide the future course of the development."
The bridge alignment has a length of 103 mts and is designed as a 3-span pre-stressed continuous bridge having two spans of 30 mts on each side and one central span of 43 mts. The bridge also has a carriageway of 7 mts with a footpath of 1.5 mts. Lane-I has been constructed along with the central cantilever slab which is carrying the load of water supply line of 700mm diameter pipe.
CM turns 62, resolves to run state Assembly for 40-45 days
PANAJI: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that his birthday resolution for the coming year would be to hold the state Assembly session for at least 40-45 days from next year.
"In the next year, I want to cross at least 40 days. This will help in spreading out the questions. Vague questions do not result in solutions. There should be pointed questions asked," he said.
Parrikar was speaking to media persons on the occasion of his 62nd birthday at the State Legislative Assembly Complex in Porvorim.
"Assembly questions actually help you to know what is wrong in your department. They are feedback systems. In the last 8 months, I have sent more than 1,000 notes to various departments and received feedback online," he stated.
Earlier in the day, a blood donation camp was held at state BJP headquarters in Panaji to celebrate Parrikar's birthday.
Parrikar also met special children of Disha Charitable Trust and People's on the occasion.
