The meeting called by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao at Seraulim was attended by sarpanch Domingo Fernandes, panchas, zilla member Nelly Rodrigues, besides senior KRC officers Joseph George and Baban Ghatge on Saturday.
In his address, the Benaulim MLA told the Konkan railway authorities that he had made an election promise to the villagers of Seraulim to resolve the long pending problem at the level crossing. "I have discussed this matter with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu as well who has promised all help and assistance to resolve the issue," Churchill said.
He cautioned the railway authorities to ensure that the proposed RUB or ROB should not disturb the environment at the nearby church, while requesting the people to remain united in resolving the issue.
Zilla member Nelly Rodrigues told the villagers to rally behind Churchill to resolve the long pending problem facing the villagers at the railway crossing.
Later, the panchayat members along with Churchill's son Savio, besides the KRC and PWD officials, inspected the area along the railway tracks. Sarpanch Domingo Fernandes later told The Goan that the villagers and officials inspected two sites for the proposed RUB and ROB.
"The KRC officials and their engineers will inspect the two sites and after a study will get back to the villagers and the village panchayat," the sarpanch added. KRC Sr Manager, Public relations, Baban Ghatge said the KRC has in-principle agreed to construct the ROB or RUB at the Seraulim level crossing. "We will study the feasibility of both the RUB and ROB at the Seraulim level crossing before arriving at a solution," Ghatge said.
