NEW DELHI: Candidates suffering from blindness, locomotor disability and cerebral palsy can use scribes to write civil services preliminary and main examination, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has said. Such candidates will also get compensatory time of twenty minutes per hour for the exam. “Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances, will they be allowed the help of a scribe to write the answers for them.

AMRITSAR: A SpiceJet flight with 159 people on board suffered a tyre burst while it was taxiing for take-off at Amritsar airport on Sunday evening. The Mumbai-bound flight SG345 from Srinagar was scheduled to take-off at 5 PM, official sources at Guru Ramdas international (Rajasansi) Airport said. As the aircraft moved on the runway, one of its tyres burst following which the take-off was aborted, the sources said, adding, since the aircraft was moving at a slow pace, the pilot immediately applied brakes to stop it.

BALGHAT: A 40-year-old local journalist was burnt to death allegedly by three persons, suspected to be closely linked to sand mafia, who set him ablaze apparently over his refusal to withdraw a court case, police said on Sunday. The burnt body of Sandeep Kothari, who was abducted from Katangi tehsil in Balaghat district two days back, was found lying near railway tracks at Sindi town in Wardha district of east Maharashtra on Saturday night, police said.

NEW DELHI: Vast swathes of North India were lashed by pre-monsoon showers on Sunday causing a drop in temperature in the region which was reeling under intense heat wave. The Meteorological office in the national capital confirmed that “pre-monsoon” showers lashed Delhi minutes after the International Yoga Day event ended at Rajpath. The maximum temperature was recorded four notches below the season''s average at 34.4 degrees Celsius while minimum temperature settled at 28.5 degrees Celsius. The humidity on the higher side hovered at 92 per cent while on the lower side it was recorded at 59 per cent.

NEW DELHI: Former Delhi law minister Jitender Singh Tomar was on Sunday sent to Tihar jail by a court here in the alleged fake degree case after police said that it does not require his custody for now. Tomar was produced in the court by the police on the expiry of his two day police remand. He has been in police custody since his arrest on June 9 with court extending his police remand period thrice. >> See pg 8
