The Margao police registered a case of cheating against an accused posing to be William Jackson, a British national who cheated a woman from Navelim to the tune of Rs 1.75 lakh by promising a clerical job in the UK.
In the complaint, the victim pointed out that between August 2022 to September 2022, on several occasions in Margao, the accused person posing to be William Jackson, a British national (full name and address not known), befriended her through her social media account.
Further, the accused person under the pretext of providing her with a clerical job in the UK asked her to deposit money in various bank accounts amounting to Rs 1.75 lakh.
The accused, however, failed to provide her with a job and also did not return her money thereby cheating the victim woman.
The Margao police registered a case of cheating and an investigation is in progress.
