The Old Goa police arrested four persons on Sunday on charges of abducting a person with intent to kill. The four were arrested on the complaint of Vishwambar Shirvoikar, who runs a bar and restaurant at Chimbel. The complainant said that he was assaulted in his bar with bottles and choppers on Saturday night and then dragged out and abducted by a gang of around 15 persons.
A relative of Shirvoikar told The Goan that, after assaulting and abducting the bar operator the assailants abandoned him near the Ribandar police outpost and fled.
Narrating the sequence of events, victim Shirvoikar informed that a fight broke out between two persons in his bar and he intervened so as to avoid it blowing out of proportion. “But one of the parties did not take it lightly and returned with more persons armed with choppers and sharp weapons,” Shirvoikar stated but added that the youth from Chimbel present at the bar overpowered them. Later, when there was nobody at the bar, they returned with a group of around 15 persons and started assaulting me with bottles, fists and blows. Before I could realise anything I was dragged outside and abducted in a two-wheeler, after which they abandoned me outside the Ribandar police outpost where I narrated the incident to the police,” Shirvoikar added.
Shirvoikar’s father tried to intervene but he was no match to the gang of 15 persons. The Old Goa police informed that upon receiving complaint they arrested four accused namely Anar Vagmude, Chetan Vagmude, Vinayak Vagmude and Gaurish Fatarpekar, all from Merces. The four have been remanded to seven days police custody. They have been charged with various offences under sections 143, 147, 148, 448, 427, 324, 506(ii),
364 r/w 34 of IPC.
The Goan has learnt that a CCTV camera installed in a building where the bar is situated could help the police in conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. The team which arrested the four consisted of PI Jivba Dalvi, LPSI Veronica Coutinho, PSI Edwin Dias, constables Samir Phadte, Mayur Asolkar, Aniket Devidas, Laxman Matondkar, Abhay Fadte, Kishan Naik, Shivram Achrekar and Rajath Shetye.
Further investigations are in progress under the supervision of PI Jivba Dalvi , SDPO Uttam Raut Dessai and SP North Chandan Chaudary.
