Reports of bud rot pathogen affecting paddy in sporadic areas of the State have come in but the damage is negligible according to Director of Agriculture Sandeep Fol Desai.
Fol Desai said the heavy rains witnessed recently after paddy stalk sprouted is the cause for bud rot affecting the crops in some areas but the extent of damage is minimal. He said the moisture on the paddy stalk creates conditions conducive for the pathogen to multiply which eventually leads to the crop rotting.
"Our officers are vigilant and have reported that the threat of bud rot damaging the standing paddy crop is negligible," he said, adding that the department expects the kharif output to be satisfactory.
