A buffalo was rescued after it accidentally fell into the Vaddem lake in the early hours of Wednesday.
A local resident, Vishal Madgaonkar, said the buffalo could have fallen in the lake at around 7 am.
"Locals say that the buffalo was trying to drink water from the lake when it accidentally fell into the water. A number of locals gathered around the lake and tried to rescue the buffalo struggling in the water,” said Madgaonkar.
“Social worker Caetano Xavier, the son of ward councillor Catharina Xavier, alerted Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho’s office for assistance to rescue the buffalo. The minister’s OSD Ligorio Monteiro went to the site and sought a crane from the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) to rescue the buffalo, while also alerting the Fire brigade and People for Animals group."
Madgaonkar said the crane arrived, but the buffalo had to be carefully tied with slings and some locals volunteered to enter the lake and tie the sling to the buffalo.
“The crane then lifted the buffalo out of the water and it was finally rescued at around 11 am," said Madgaonkar.
