The Minister for PWD Sudin Dhavalikar has given a healthy challenge to the Health department, that if it fails to set up a trauma unit in the Sub District Hospital, Ponda within three months, then he will establish one in the IMA institution at Farmagudi using funds from a central scheme.
Dhavalikar was speaking after inaugurating ‘Dilasa’, a bedded center for the terminally-ill at Farmagudi-Ponda.
Minister for Health, Vishwajit Rane, MP Adv Narendra Sawaikar, Zilla Panchayat member Chitra Phadate, local panch of Bandora Ramchandra Naik, president of Indian Medical Association Dr. Ravindra Wankhedekar, chairman of IMA-Charitable Trust Dr. Santosh Usgaonkar, IMA Goa President Ajay Pednekar, Secretary Dr. Vallabh Dhaimodkar, Trustee Dr Pournima Usgaonkar, and Dr Amey Kamat were present on the occasion.
Dilasa is the project by IMA Ponda Charitable Trust.
Dhavalikar said that the National Highway authority has sanctioned two trauma units for Goa. “One will come up in Mapusa and the other we want in SDH-Ponda. If the health department is not helping to establish the same in the next three months, then I will have it in Dilasa-Farmagudi,” Dhavalikar said.
“Many accidents are taking place in the country. Hence, the central government wants trauma units to be set up near highways. My intention is very clear, we need to help and save the lives of those injured in accidents,” he added.
Dhavalikar also said that he wishes to set up a nursing institution in Ponda and has already discussed the same with IMA office bearers.
“I am proud that many girls from Marcaim constituency have become nurses. Our Madhavrao Dhavalikar Trust encourage them to pursue nursing. Hence we had an MOU with the nursing college at Ghatprabha. If we can open a college in Ponda, then it will benefit everyone,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Vishwajit Rane said that he is trying to take healthcare to a different level in the state.
“We are looking to persuade Goan doctors practicing outside of Goa to come back and work in the health care industry in Goa so that we can provide people with the best in terms of medical care,” Vishwajit said.
He also assured to set up a blood bank in six months in the Ponda Sub District hospital. “I will require around Rs two crores. For that we will do budgetary provision,” he said.
“We need to see how doctors in private sectors along with government work in an integrated manner. I appeal to Dilasa to have tie-ups with government to provide better facilities,” he added.
Speaking on the Dilasa project, Sawaikar said, “Large families have turned into nuclear families and this has forced people to keep senior citizens in old age homes. That is a very sad thing. But considering the need of society, IMA has done this.”
