Bungalows with pools spark uproar at Sarzora gram sabha

MARGAO
The issue of a housing project comprising of six bungalows with swimming pools took the centre stage at the gram sabha of the Sarzora village panchayat on Sunday.

The meeting chaired by Sarpanch Riya Oliveira saw members raising their strong reservations to the bungalows with swimming pools, as they raised apprehensions that the swimming pool facility may have an adverse impact on the water supply.

In fact, former Sarpanch Jacinto Fernandes demanded to know how come the project has received the nod when local villagers are presently facing water pressure issues.

Sarpanch Oliveira later told the media that the project was approved by the Town and Country Planning Department before it was sent to the panchayat. She further pointed out that the panchayat has obtained an affidavit from the project proponent that water supply to the swimming pools will be met via water tankers.

The gram sabha members also lodged their strong objection to any attempt made to conduct the 3D NAKSHA Survey in the village. Members also opposed government’s plans to introduce smart meters.
