As the ruling BJP leaders led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant went into a celebration mode as news tricked in from Bihar that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday, with party leaders eyeing on the upcoming Zilla Panchayat polls, hoping that the “feel good factor” created by the Bihar election result will keep the party in good stead in the ensuing polls.
In fact, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant led the party in celebrating the Bihar poll result, thundering at the South Goa party office that the BJP will win both the North and South Goa Zilla Panchayat seats in the December 2020 election.
BJP leaders made no bones of the fact that the Bihar election result will be celebrated across the talukas and constituencies to create the right impact amongst the workers and gear them up for the upcoming polls.
The Chief Minister exuded confident that the BJP would retain the North and South Goa ZP seats in the coming election. “In the 2020 ZP polls, the party had won 22 out of the 25 seats at stake for the North ZP seat. In South Goa, the party had scripted a historic victory by winning 14 out of the 25 seats for South Goa. Our tally in South Goa rose to 17 with the help of the alliance partner. I have no doubt that the BJP will win both the North and South Goa ZP seats,” he asserted.
Complimenting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar for leading the NDA to victory, the Chief Minister said that people of Bihar have rejected the politics of communalism, jungle raj and goondagiri. “There are some parties which seek votes in the name of caste and creed. The BJP and JD(U) went to the Bihar populace on the plank of development and the people have reposed their faith in the NDA,” the Chief Minister said.
Saying the Bihar victory will create a positive impact for the BJP across the country, the Chief Minister said he has no doubt that the people of Goa too will rally behind the BJP in the upcoming polls for the Zilla Panchayat, municipal polls in early 2026 and the 2027 Assembly elections.
BJP State President Damu Naik complimented Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other party leaders for leading the party to victory in Bihar. He said Goa BJP leaders led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant too deserve compliments for campaigning in the Bihar polls in support of party candidates.
BJP Ministers Subhash Shirodkar, Subhash Phal Dessai and Ramesh Tawadkar too said that the party will benefit in Goa in the upcoming polls from the Bihar poll verdict.
The party later decided to hold celebrations across the talukas and constituencies as part of the attempt to create the feel good factor amongst the party rank and file and the electorate in general.
BJP bigwigs huddle in South Goa to finalise ZP candidates
MARGAO: The BJP leadership led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and BJP State chief Damu Naik went into a huddle at the South Goa district office throughout Friday to finalise the party’s candidates for the upcoming election for the South Goa Zilla Panchayat seat.
Besides Chief Minister and Party president, the meeting was attended by the BJP core committee members, Ministers Subhash Phal Dessai, Subhash Shirodkar and Ramesh Tawadkar, MLAs, including Ulhas Tuenkar and others.
The Chief Minister and the core committee members assessed the applications received from applicants to decide on the potential candidates. The leaders assessed the situation constituency wise-beginning from the two constituencies of Cortalim and Sancoale in Mormugao. The exercise continued till Friday evening with the panel almost shortlisting the candidates in most of the constituencies.
Sources informed that the party is expected to unveil the list of candidates in the next 3-4 days, to ensure that the candidates kick start their work in their respective areas.
