Burglar prays at temple, then steals from donation box

In an unusual incident, a burglar broke into the Khapreshwar Temple at Sada-Vasco in the wee hours of Tuesday and offered prayers at the temple, before decamping with cash from the donation box.

The incident occurred at around 3.15 am on Tuesday and the entire episode was recorded on a CCTV camera in the temple. Footage of the incident went viral on social media on Wednesday.

CCTV footage showed a man armed with an iron rod attempting to break the grilled gate to enter the temple. The burglar later breaks open the lock of the temple gate and enters the temple premises before kneeling down to offer prayers and to seek forgiveness for his act.

The burglar is later seen breaking open the donation box and taking money from it.

According to sources in the Khapreshwar Temple, the donation box had around Rs 30,000 while the property that was damaged is estimated at Rs 70,000. The temple committee has filed a complaint with the Mormugao Police station and police are investigating the case.
