Burglars made an abortive bid to burgle the Goa State Cooperative Bank, Nagarcem branch, in Canacona between Thursday and Sunday night.
The Goa State Cooperative Bank situated in Cine Anandi building at Nagarcem was targeted by the burglars somewhere between Thursday evening, the last working day of the bank, and Sunday. When the staff entered the bank on Monday, they noticed the bent grills of a rear window. Police were immediately informed, who pressed fingerprint experts and dog squad into service.
“The burglars made attempts to enter into the bank’s strong room by breaking open a rear window. However, except for bending a CCTV camera, no more damages nor attempts were made to break open the strong room or damages made to any of the bank items,” informed branch manager Dayanand Dessai.
Police pressed a dog squad and fingerprints experts, however no traces of fingerprints could be found nor sniffer dog could pick up any clue, informed a source.
According to the branch manager, police suspects that it could be handiwork of atleast two persons, but the exact day or night of the attempts could not be ascertained even as police is verifying to find any CCTV footage of anyone being captured. Even the ATM located outside was found not be tampered.
Sources informed that night watchman was not engaged and the culprits could have targetted the bank any time between Thursday evening and Monday morning with bank remaining closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Incidentally, the bank is situated just across the highway road with a number of establishments in Cine Anandi building and opposite the road.
