MARGAO
Burglars struck at will in the commercial capital on Wednesday night as they successfully burgled two residential apartments at Aquem Wednesday night, decamping with valuables worth around Rs three lakh.
The Pereira family were at their Velim residence when the miscreants, taking advantage of their absence, barged inside by breaking open the main door.
The burglary came to light early Thursday morning when the owner James Pereira received a call from the Chairman of the Housing Society, informing him that the main door of the flat is found open.
The family rushed to Margao in the morning, only to find the main door open. Their worst fears came true when they entered the apartment only to find the cupboards and other items in the house ransacked by the miscreants in search of the booty.
James informed that he was in the apartment till around 6.30 pm to 6.45 pm on Wednesday before heading to Velim. “My family has lost valuables from the house, including diamond ring, a bracelet and other gold ornaments which were being routinely used by them,” he said.
As the news of the burglary sent shockwaves in the locality, the Margao police requisitioned the services of a police dog and finger print experts to assist in the investigations.
Sources say the CCTV camera footage show around four persons entering the residential apartment to commit the burglary.
Baffled over the incidents, the Margao Police has launched investigations into the house-breaking thefts.
