The High Court of Bombay at Goa has allowed an assistant professor of Khandola College to work from home on the condition that the lady professor must appear in college at least three days in a month.
The high court bench has also made it clear that the order should not be taken as a general condition for the teaching faculty.
The lady assistant professor Dr Bina Vernekar filed a petition before the Goa bench of the high court. The Goa government, Higher Education Secretary, Higher Education Director, Deputy Director, and the Principal of Khandola College were made a party in the matter.
The assistant professor due to her health conditions also applied to the Directorate of Higher Education for work from home through an application on March 17, 2020, and the professor started to conduct online classes on March 19, 2020.
However, due to the Covid pandemic, the lockdown was announced and the physical classes were suspended.
In the meantime, the professor's application for work from home was rejected by the Directorate of Higher Education on July 6, 2020, and accordingly, the subsequent orders were issued against the assistant professor.
Professor Bina Venekar challenged these orders issued by the Directorate of Higher Education and demanded that she should be allowed to work from home due to her health conditions.
