The Commercial Tax office at Vasco led by Deputy Commissioner Rohit Kadam on Thursday raided three firms in the port town for suspected tax evasion.
Speaking to the media, Kadam said four teams were formed to carry out raids on firms suspected to have been involved in tax evasion or under-declaring the sales.
"We had identified a few establishments and we had formed the teams after we got orders from our commissioner on Wednesday. We conducted a raid on three firms under the supervision of the additional commissioner. We are presently investigating and we feel there is a big closing stock mismanagement," said Kadam.
He said the books of accounts have been seized and purchase and sale bills would be verified and recovery would be initiated.
"We are also visiting Non Filers of GST and issuing them notices and it is our request to GST Tax Payers to file their returns on time and pay with a penalty and late fees to cooperate with the department," said Kadam.
"In the last few weeks we had frozen a few accounts and the Commercial Tax Department is looking into the collection of revenue belonging to the government. We will have more of such drives and we appeal to taxpayers to pay their legal dues to the government," Kadam added.
