MARGAO
Taking advantage of the absence of occupants, the burglars entered the house by first cutting open an iron grill gate and then broke open the main door. The miscreants are believed to have ransacked around six cupboards, laying their hands on gold ornaments, consisting of two gold chains, two big size bangles, three pairs of earrings, besides 12 gold bangles and a cross. The miscreants also lifted away cash of Rs 20,000 from the house.
The burglary came to light when Elizabeth Diniz returned home on Monday evening along with her husband from the hospital, only to find the main door open. Their worst fears came true when they found the cupboards inside the house ransacked and their valuables missing.
Sources said that Elizabeth had gone to the hospital since her husband was undergoing treatment since the last three days. It is learnt that though she used to return home every evening, she stayed put in the hospital last night, without realizing the burglars would target their house in their absence.
The incident triggered shock and surprise in the locality since the house is located right on the NH-17. The Cuncolim police has initiated investigations into the case to nab the culprits.
