In a bid to prevent cases of drunken driving, the Vasco Traffic Cell on Thursday launched a drive to randomly check motorists for alcohol content using alcometers.
Vasco Traffic Cell PI Shailesh Narvekar said the drive began with random checks on bus drivers on different routes in the port town.
"We carried out a special drive against drunken driving and while we usually check two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers, we decided to check the drivers of private buses and Kadamba buses today for alcohol content,” said PI Narvekar.
“We even warned drivers that we will check regularly for drunken driving and most stringent action will be initiated if anyone is found driving under the influence of alcohol.”
“We will continue this drive and start random checking against everyone from tomorrow as a measure to avoid cases of drunken driving in Vasco," said PI Narvekar.
