The Goa Private Bus Owners Association met Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur on Friday, to convey its willingness to convert buses exceeding 15 years from diesel to CNG fuel.
“A delegation from the association appealed to Gadkari to make appropriate changes to allow such buses to operate with the fitness certificate of RTO. We submitted our statement of demands to Gadkari,” said the Association General Secretary Sudip Tamhankar.
As per the new Motor Vehicle Act, buses which exceed 15 years will not get a permit renewal from the RTO. During his recent visit to Goa, Gadkari had suggested that bus owners shift to CNG, to enable their buses to be considered roadworthy.
“Gadkari had invited us to Nagpur to inspect CNG operated buses. We went to Nagpur and inspected such buses. We also interacted with mechanics and got information about maintenance of such buses,” said Tamhankar.
“We are ready to shift to CNG operated buses in a phased manner,” Tamhankar added.
