In a kidnapping for ransom case filed by Vasco police station, Additional Sessions Judge, South Goa, Kshama Joshi on Friday convicted and sentenced accused Abdul Kadar Javali, resident of New Vaddem, Vasco, to life imprisonment.
While ordering the accused to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 as a deterrent punishment, the Judge acquitted another accused Salim Khan in the case giving benefit of doubt. The third accused Rajendra Kumar Kahar is presently absconding after being released on bail. The incident had occurred in June, 2018 wherein the accused persons had kidnapped a businessman from Vasco demanding ransom of Rs 10 lakh.
Public Prosecutor Devanand Korgaonkar appeared on behalf of prosecution and the court examined 29 witnesses in support of the prosecution case.
The case was investigated and chargesheeted by the then in-charge of Vasco Police Station and presently Vice Principal, PTS, Valpoi, Nolasco Raposo.
The case of the prosecution was that on June 8, 2018 at about 22.15 hours after closing the shop, the complainant along with his other staff were about to go to their residence when he saw two persons holding hands of his owner and trying to put him inside his light blue colour car. Though the staff tried to rescue the owner, the kidnappers fled away with the car.
