In a scathing attack, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) on Friday denounced the Oxel Sarpanch, alleging deceit in portraying themselves as the villagers’ saviour amidst ongoing construction near the traditional village spring.
The North Goa President of RGP, Gauresh Mandrekar asserted that the sarpanch’s recent involvement in a candlelight vigil was hypocritical, considering their purported ignorance of a resolution passed by the RGP to halt mega projects in Oxel village back in 2021.
Mandrekar emphasized the need for the sarpanch to cease misleading the community and take tangible action to prevent construction projects encroaching upon the village’s wetlands.
Displaying a copy of the resolution passed by the RGP, Mandrekar urged accountability from the sarpanch, insisting they fulfil their duty to safeguard the village’s interests.
The recent candlelight vigil, organized by the Goa Green Brigade to protect the traditional spring, saw Oxel Sarpanch, Reshal Arporkar, advocating for community action against mega projects.
However, Arporkar’s plea was met with skepticism by the RGP, questioning the sincerity of their commitment in light of the sarpanch’s purported lack of awareness regarding existing resolutions.
Highlighting the panchayat’s alleged ineffectiveness in preserving the village, Mandrekar underscored the RGP’s efforts in campaigning against mega projects. Despite submitting representations and complaints to higher authorities, including the Chief Secretary and Dy Town Planner, Mandrekar lamented the lack of action taken against projects violating village regulations.
