MARGAO
Pajifond was rocked by a daring robbery late Thursday night when two persons robbed a businessman of his bag containing gold chains and cash, all valued around Rs 64,500.
The two accused, Manish Mehta and Mario Clemente were later arrested by the police and the stolen property recovered after members of the public managed to nab the accused after the victim Vikram Jain raised an alarm. Both the accused have been arrested for robbery and are now cooling their heels at the Fatorda police station.
Fatorda PI Navlesh Desai informed that the incident occurred at around 11.30 pm when Manish Mehta, who had hatched the plot, lay in wait for Vikram near his flat at Pajifond. Vikram, the police said, was known to Manish, as the former used to come down to Goa from Mumbai to take orders for jewellery.
On the other hand, PI Navlesh said Manish and Mario had met recently at a restaurant, wherein Manish had offered to help Mario who was in need of Rs 30,000 for an eye operation. “Manish had offered to provide the amount to Mario on condition that he runs away with a bag containing valuables which would be handed over to him by Manish,” PI Navlesh said.
As per the plan, Mario was believed to have stationed himself near the Peppers while Manish lay in wait for Vikram. No sooner, he saw the victim coming towards his flat, Manish attacked Vikram and ran with his bag containing the valuable towards Mario.
To their bad luck, Vikram raised an alarm and a crowd that heard the cries for help gave a hot chase to the accused before nabbing the duo and handing them to the police.
