By-polls in Chicalim, Cansaulim on Dec 13

CORTALIM: A total of five nominations for Ward 1 of Chicalim panchayat by-poll and four nominations for Ward 4 of Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim panchayat by-poll have been filed. Monday was the last day to file nominations for the by-polls in these two panchayats.

The by-elections to the two wards will take place on December 13.

Those who filed their nominations for the Chicalim by-poll are former sarpanchas Raul D'Costa and Caetano Fernandes, Shantaram Pednekar, Alex Pereira and Pradeep Naik.

Former sarpanch Martha Saldanha, Angela Pereira, Shamin Saldanha and Serafina D'Souza are the candidates in the Cansaulim by-poll.

Tuesday will be the day for scrutiny while Wednesday will be the date for withdrawal.

The by-election has been necessitated following the resignations of Chicalim panch Anacleto D'Souza and Cansaulim panch Casendra Almeida.
