Contending that the BJP had learnt the art of misguiding and diverting attention of the people, Aam Aadmi Party leader Pradeep Padgaonkar on Thursday said the Citizen (Amendment) Act has been introduced to drive fissures between the Hindus and Muslim only for vote bank politics.
“Humanity has no place in BJP. They identify citizens as Hindus, Christians or Muslims on religious grounds. The CAA has been brought to divide the country on religious basis and to create favourable vote bank,” Padgaonkar said.
The AAP leader was speaking while observing the 72nd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at the Hutatma Chowk in Mapusa where people belonging to a cross-section of the society had assembled to commemorate the Martyr’s Day and register their angst against the discriminatory CAA and the proposed NRC.
The Martyr’s Day programme in Mapsua was organised by citizens belonging to Goa Alliance Against CAA, NPR and NRC
AAP leader Rahul Mhambre said a member belonging to a fringe group had murdered Mahatma Gandhi and the same groups were pampered by the current BJP leadership.
“A BJP MP says gholi maro…The PM should immediately sack him. But this will never be done,” Mhambre said.
He said, whenever, citizens came out and criticized the BJP-led government, the critics were labeled as tukde tukde gang, urban naxalites and anti-nationals.
Questioning the motive behind CAA, Adv Savio Braganza said when India was surrounded by so many other countries along the border why only the three countries were selected.
He said giving benefit to six religious groups under the CAA was grossly discriminatory and violating the Constitution of India.
Some individuals from the gathering came forward and read the Preamble of the Constitution in five languages “ Konkani, Marathi, Urdu, Hindi and English. “We are reading the preamble in different languages to let the government know the diversity of our country,” Mhambre said.
