Cabinet approves Private Medical College in South Goa

State cabinet today granted its nod to establish a private medical college, attached to South Goa District Hospital, through a Trust to be headed by the Chief Minister.

Post cabinet meeting Chief Minister Pramod Sawant emphasised that the private medical college will follow the model of Goa Medical College (GMC), offering free healthcare services to patients and reserving seats for Goan students.

Sawant outlined the structure of the trust responsible for overseeing the project. "We will form a trust, which will be headed by the Chief Minister and opposition leader, along with MLA representatives from various political parties," Sawant stated.

Around 10,000 se meters of land will be allocated for construction of the medical college and it will be situated near the South Goa District Hospital, with its blueprint being finalised by NITI Ayog.

Despite administrative oversight from the government, operational control will be vested with a private operator.

The Chief Minister reiterated that quotas would be reserved for Goan students. "This private college will benefit Goan students, as quotas will be reserved for them," he said,

The college is anticipated to begin operations next June after completing formalities.
