The State Cabinet which met on Wednesday approved a proposal to fix the fees of Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni who represents Goa's interests before the Supreme Court, the National Green Tribunal, High Courts and other Tribunals to be Rs7.5 lakh per month as a ‘retainership' as well as an additional Rs 3-lakh per appearance for each appearance on behalf of the state in all matters except those before the Mhadei Disputes Tribunal.
The retainership shall cover conferenc
es in various matters and written opinions he offers with effect from December 1, 2017.
These fees will be over and above the fees being paid to Adv Nadkarni by virtue of him being an Additional Solicitor General to the Government of India and representing the interests of the central government before various courts.
The State government's reasoning has been that the Government is actually saving money as "if we engage a counsel of his stature, it will cost the government not less than Rs7.5-25 lakh per appearance".
The government has also approved a payment of airfare of up to four visits per month between Delhi and Goa which shall be borne by the government.
