Cabinet okays Rs 12 cr for Covid management

APPOINTMENT OF 226 MEDICAL STAFFERS TO MAN THE COVID WARDS AT GMC

The cabinet on Wednesday granted ex post facto approval to expenses of Rs 12 crore undertaken by the Directorate of Health Services for Covid-19 management.

The cabinet has also approved the contract-basis appointment of one oncologist at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim along with 226 supporting medical staffers to man the newly designated Covid wards at the institution. In addition to this, the government has also issued a nod to the appointment of six nurses and four attendants for South Goa District Hospital.

Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated, “Ex post facto approval has been granted to expenses to the tune of Rs 12 crore undertaken by Directorate of  Health Services for Covid-19 management. Many wards at GMC have been designated as Covid wards and there is a shortage of staff to man these wards.  Therefore, the government has decided to appoint 226 more staff on contract basis.’

He informed that renowned senior gastroenterologist Dr Jose Philip Alvares has been onboarded at GMC as an oncologist on contract basis for a period of one year.

The staff approved on contract basis at GMC includes 90 staff nurses, 30 anesthesia assistants, six biomedical engineers, five LDC, 10  junior technicians and 85 Multi-Tasking Staff.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also informed that approval has been granted for housekeeping services to Veejay Facility Management Pvt Ltd and laundry services to EcoClean for the ESI Covid Hospital in Margao.
