MARGAO
After an underground cable fault triggered a power outage around the Aquem area of Margao since Saturday evening, the supply was finally restored in part in the wee hours of Sunday, thanks to non-stop work by power officials and staff since Saturday afternoon.
The Aquem area had to go without power supply since 11 am on Saturday, probably because of a fault in the underground cabling. The officials managed to restore the power supply around 7 pm on Saturday, before the area went without power supply.
Given that the Margao division is not equipped with an underground fault-finding machine, power officials procured the machine from neighbouring Benaulim. Power consumers, who receive supply from two power transformers, were the most affected because of the outage.
It was only at around 2 am on Sunday that the power officials restored the power supply in part and continued the operation to put a permanent solution in place.
Margao MLA and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, who closely monitored the fault-finding work of the power department on the ground, appreciated the hard work of assistant engineers Carlos Fernandes and Nicolas Moraes, junior engineer Sharad Naik, linemen and labourers, who all worked on the ground since Saturday night trying to restore power in the Aquem area. “While the department restored power in one part, the other will get power by Sunday evening,” Kamat added.
