Demanding an investigation into the illegal construction of houses at Pedamoll-Shirvoi, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral on Thursday hit out at the Congress for commenting without proper information on the illegal houses.

Cabral also reiterated the need for the Solid Waste Managment Plant (SWMP) at Cacora and assured that only garbage from Quepem, Sanguem, Dharbandora and Canacona talukas would be treated at the proposed plant.
Addressing a news conference in Curchorem, Cabral clarified that cases pertaining to the illegal houses at Pedamoll were going on since 2005, well before he was the Curchorem MLA.
"The plots were sold and people were allowed to construct houses. I will request the revenue minister for a probe in the matter."
Cabral, however, clarified that he was in favour of regularising old houses which have electricity and water connections.
"I will, however, oppose the new houses and have, in fact, complained to the collector and deputy collector to stop new constructions at the site," said Cabral.
Turning his attention to the proposed SWMP at Cacora, Cabral said people from Curchorem had visited the SWMP plant at Saligao and were impressed by the project.
"Garbage from the talukas of Quepem, Sanguem, Dharbandora and Canacona talukas will be treated at the proposed plant," said the Curchorem MLA.
Commenting on statements by former minister and his predecessor, Domnic Fernandes, Cabral denied using property belonging to the polytechnic. "The area where garbage is presently being dumped is being used for the SWMP at Cacora," said Cabral.
