Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim panchayat on Sunday resolved to go ahead with the much-awaited Railway over-bridge (ROB) project. Speaking to reporters, Martha Saldanha, sarpanch of CAC panchayat informed that the ROB project was initially opposed by a lot of landlords who were not willing to give their land to the project.
However, Saldanha called each of them separately and explained to them about the ROB project thus gaining their support.
“It is a complete disaster when the gates come down. People are totally handicapped and at times after passenger trains have passed gates are not opened as in another 5 minutes a wagon train has to pass. That is why this over bridge is of utmost importance,” said Saldanha.
Meanwhile, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha who also deems that a railway over-bridge at Cansaulim was extremely necessary, said, “This is a very clear project and we are thankful to the central government to have considered our request from Goa and put this project in the first list of over-bridges. There are about 400 railway over-bridges to be taken up in the country. This is an important project as many a times emergency services like ambulance and fire tenders are kept waiting for a long time. This bridge could be of benefit to normal vehicles, emergency vehicles or even the common man who just wants to get to the other side of the railway crossing,” said Saldanha.
