Residents in Keri-Sattari can be expected to get clean drinking water, with the government sanctioning Rs 90 lakh for a Jackwell system to purify the water at the water purification plant in Keri.
According to reports, people from the area had been deprived of clean and safe water due to the lack of a Jackwell system at the water purification plant in Keri-Sattari.
Sources said raw water from the reservoir at Anjunem Dam is used at the water purification plant in Keri and is supplied to villages in Keri. People would regularly complain that dirty water would flow from the taps and they were informed that this was due to the lack of a Jackwell system at the Keri plant.
Unhappy about the poor quality of water supply, people began demanding a Jackwell system at the Keri plant.
Acting on their requests, local MLA and former chief minister Pratapsing Rane directed officials to prepare a proposal to install the Jackwell at the plant and the proposal was sent a few years ago.
Sources said the water supply department recently considered the demand to install a jackwell system at the plant to supply clean water supply to people in Keri-Sattari.
Confirming that the government has sanctioned a Jackwell system to purify the water at the Keri water purification plant, Water Supply Assistant Engineer Eknath Paste told The Goan that a tender has already been floated to install the Jackwell system at the plant.
“The land in question belongs to the water resources department, efforts are underway to obtain a no-objection certificate from them. Hopefully, it will be obtained within a short period and work to install the Jackwell system will begin shortly,” said Paste.
“After installation of the Jackwell system, people from Keri Sattari will get clean and hygienic water, which was the long-pending demand by people,” he added.
“Besides, the water supply department is planning to upgrade this water purification plant from 2 MLD to 10 MLD. If it is sanctioned and upgraded, then water from this plant will be supplied to the villages of Poriem and Morlem,” Paste said.
