In an attempt to step up the pressure against the Planning Development Authority (PDA), locals of Calangute and Candolim have launched separate signature campaigns requesting de-notification of both coastal villages from the North Goa Planning Development Authority (NGPDA).
The signature drive in Calangute, which was launched just a couple of days back, has already gathered over 2,000 signatures.
“We are against the PDA which will bring rampant destruction to our fields, hills and environment. No more concretization. We want to retain the FAR in our village as per the Panchayat Raj Act,” said Premanand Divkar of Calangute, who is spearheading the campaign.
He said the campaign was purely voluntary and people have been clearly informed that they can put their signatures only if they are against the PDA.
“We have got more than 2,000 signatures so far. People have willingly come and signed the petition against the PDA,” he said.
A similar campaign has also been launched in Candolim to garner support of the public against the PDA.
“We have already begun collecting signatures from people who are against the PDA in our village. People are openly supporting us. They have realized the mess PDAs will create in the village,” said Roshan Mathias, convenor of the Concerned Citizens of Candolim.
Divkar said that the petition will be handed over to the three members of the Cabinet Advisory Committee including the TCP Minister Vijai Sardessai.
He said the Calangute parish and like-minded NGOs have supported the cause of the people of Calangute in their battle against PDA.
On Monday, the Convenor of Council for Social Justice and Peace (CSJP) Executive Secretary Fr Savio Fernandes exhorted the people of Goa that the fight against the Planning Development Authority (PDAs) should be kept on until all the villages are removed from the planning bodies.
He also said that the town planning act was an outdated one which has to be scrapped and replaced with a model Goa development act.
As long as all the villages are removed from the ambit of PDAs, we will have to continue with our battle against the PDAs,” Fr Fernandes had said at an awareness programme on PDA and ODP organized by the Concerned Citizens of Candolim in association with Council of Social Justice and Peace in Candolim.
The awareness meeting managed to draw more than 500 people.
