MARGAO
The one-and-half-year old battle against the state highway passing through the heritage village finally brought dividends to the people of Chandor with the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Board headed by TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai recommending to the PWD to de-notify the SH-8 highway passing through Margao-Davorlim-Chandor-Curchorem by withdrawing the notification.
What’s significant to note is that the TCP Board’s recommendation has received the government’s nod, with Chief Town Planner Rajesh Naik now asking the PWD, Principal Chief Engineer to maintain/notify the status of the road as per the Regional Plan 2021 which is in force now.
The TCP Board’s decision is apparently based on the fact that the Regional Plan 2001 shows the SH-8 passing from Margao, Sao Jose de Areal, Paroda, Quepem and Curchorem and not through Margao-Davorlim-Chandor-Curchorem. The decision comes following the Board’s observation that the Regional Plan 2021 also showed that the Margao, Sao Jose de Areal, Paroda, Quepem and Curchorem is existing as SH-8 having width of 30 meters.
TCP BOARD’S OBSERVATIONS
Decision based on fact that RP 2001 shows SH-8 passing from Margao, Sao Jose de Areal, Paroda, Quepem and Curchorem and not through Margao-Davorlim-Chandor-Curchorem
RP 2021 also show Margao, Sao Jose de Areal, Paroda, Quepem and Curchorem is existing as SH-8 having width of 30 meters
RP 2001 & RP 2021 clearly indicates that road passing through Margao-Davorlim-Chandor-Curchorem as MDR-40 having width of 25 mts
