Dry weather gave the parishioners of Calangute something to cheer, as the feast of patron saint, St Alex was celebrated with much gusto and reverence on Sunday.

Devotees from across the State flocked for the feast adding to the merriment on a relatively dry and pleasant day.
The feast mass was celebrated by 12 priests with Bishop Alwyn Baretto, Bishop of Sindhudurg, con-celebrating the mass.
The 12 priests included Fr Cipriano D'Silva (Parish Priest of Calangute), Fr Alex D'Souza (Parish Priest of Parra), Fr Domnic D'Souza, Fr Marcelino De Souza, Fr Querobino Baptista (all Assistant Parish Priests of Calangute), Fr Jose Silveira (son of Calangute), Fr Kyriel D'Souza and other priests.
Delivering the homily, Fr Kyriel D'Souza urged the congregation to live an exemplary life with love and concern for one another. "We should always have love and concern for others which helps us to build a good community. St Alex too left his rich family and all the worldly riches but survived on his coconut shell because of his faith in the Almighty," Fr D'Souza said.
