Stating that there was a big difference between old and new Calangute, Goa Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Dayanand Sopte on Wednesday said that the credit for new Calangute goes to local MLA Michael Lobo.
“Lobo has been very active in taking the initiative and utilizing most of the government schemes to expand the infrastructure of the coastal village. In other constituencies only 10 per cent of the schemes are utilised.”
The GTDC chairman was speaking at a function to launch the two self-propelled vacuum sweeping machines for Calangute and Candolim village panchayats.
The self-propelled vacuum sweeping machines launched by GTDC have been bought at a cost of Rs 80 lakh each.
The Waste Management Minister said the machines to clean the streets will be mostly used during the nights.
On the occasion, Calangute panchayat also unveiled ‘Welcome to Calangute’ signboards and other signages warning tourists about the ban on alcohol consumption on beaches and public places and warning of fines for littering of public places.
The Calangute panchayat has also launched wifi hotspot in Calangute on the occasion. Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins said such wifi hotspots will also be launched in Baga and other areas.
