Calangute villagers and members of Calangute Constituency Forum on Thursday demanded that Calangute panchayat remove the entire illegal road recently constructed on the beach and restore the beach to its original status.
Some locals led by CCF President Premanand Divkar met the panchayat secretary Raghuvir Bagkar and demanded corrective action from the panchayat.
“We discussed the issue of illegal road on the beach at Calangute Sauntavaddo-Khobravaddo border and demanded that the road be demolished and the beach be restored to its original position,” Divkar said.
The CCF President informed that the secretary agreed that the act of construction of road on the beach was illegal and the same should be removed.
The secretary told the locals that the proposal of the road was not discussed in the meeting and the panchayat has neither passed any resolution nor work order has been issued to construct the road.
Incidentally, Sapranch Shawn Martins is the local panch of the area where the alleged illegal road construction has happened.
It may be recalled at least 300-metre road has been constructed with rubble and red mud on the Calangute beach at least a week back.
Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins had said the panchayat was not constructing the road but was trying to clear the area.
Meanwhile, the CCF is planning to hold a public meeting in the area to highlight the illegalities encouraged by the local panchayat.
