A resident of Calangute has alleged that he was cheated of nearly Rs 2 lakh by two persons who promised him profits after inducing him to pay money for completing certain tasks.
According to police, a complaint was lodged by Tarun Nanda (58), a resident of Calangute, stating that the accused persons – identified as Vikas Kashyap and Priya Arora – allegedly duped him on the pretext of helping him earn higher profits.
Police said the accused allegedly persuaded the complainant to transfer money under the assurance that he would earn substantial returns upon completing certain assigned tasks.
Believing the claims, the complainant reportedly paid a total amount of Rs 1,99,535. However, he later realised that he had been cheated.
Based on the complaint, the Calangute police registered an offence under Section 318(3) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Police said further investigation into the case is being carried out by PSI Snehal Malik.
