Call for action against migrant fish sellers

OLD GOA

Raising suspicion that formalin-laced fish could be sold in Chimbel despite a ban, the Chimbel Gram Seva Kala Ani Sanskrutik Manch has urged authorities like the panchayat and the police to take action against the migrants openly selling fish in the village.

In a letter to the Chimbel panchayat and the Old Goa police station, the Manch has pointed out that migrants on foot and two-wheelers are seen selling fish like mackerel despite the ban.

“We have every reason to believe that the formalin- laced fish, which was confiscated by the FDA, but not destroyed, is being fraudulently pushed back in the State by the fish mafia with the help of some greedy politicians,” informed Tukaram Kunkolkar, Secretary of the Manch.

“The panchayat should act and direct the Old Goa police to confiscate the fish sold by the migrants and send it for testing as the health of the Chimbel villagers is at stake.”
