Congress seeks appointment with chief minister

PANAJI

The Congress on Sunday said it has sought a formal appointment with the ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to “clear doubts” over his health status and whether he is in a position to discharge his duties.

Alleging that a clique of personal staff in the CMO has extra-constitutionally taken control of the State administration, Congress functionary Swati Kerkar said a party delegation wants to meet the Chief Minister, after which the picture will be clear.

Kerkar, who addressed a press conference at the Congress headquarters in Panaji, said there are doubts that the Chief Minister is not in a position to even sign a document due to his ill-health.

In this situation, there are chances that officials in the Chief Minister’s office have taken over the administration.

“We have received complaints from many Congress workers that their relatives working in the government are being pressurized by some officials from the chief minister’s office that if they become members of BJP than they will prosper,” Kerkar said. She, however, refused to name the OSDs, adding that they will be named only after they get formal written complaints from their workers.

Another Congressman from Shiroda Riya Shetkar said the Congress will move Court to expose the land deal between Subhash Shirodkar and the State government. “If required we will challenge this land acquisition in the court”, she added.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Urfan Mulla expressed confidence that the party will win both the seats in the by-elections.  “We will give tickets to young and new faces in Mandrem and Shiroda constituencies,” he said.
