The Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan (GRLA), in a mission to unite and galvanise all Konkani Associations of Goa, to demand justice for the Roman script, has called on the office bearers and committee members of Dalgado Konknni Academy, (DKA), at Reginald Fernandes Conference hall, Panaji, to discuss ways on how the two organisations, could work hand-in-hand, to obtain justice for Roman script Konkani.
Present were Celso Fernandes, (President DKA), Tomazinho Cardozo, Daniel D’Souza, Vincy Quadros, Afonso (Bond) Gonsalves, and Fr Myron Barretto of DKA and Kennedy Afonso, (President) Michael Gracias (Secretary) and Ansh Bandedkar (Treasurer) represented GRLA.
“We are happy to state that our mutual discussions led to fruitful outcomes on various aspects, and the two organisations agreed to mutually support the Romi Konkani movement led by GRLA. GRLA impressed upon all DKA members that if all Konkani Associations of Goa, and in other states, unitedly work together, then the dream of giving equal status for Roman script Konkani in the Official Language Act, will become a reality,” GRLA president Kennedy Afonso said.
He said this meeting to unite all Konkani associations was a crucial step forward, and GRLA hopes to meet Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG), Tiatristanchi Sounstha, and other Konkani associations and “we will soon join forces with Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan, to unitedly take this Romi Konkani movement to the next level.”
Kennedy said the Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan has already united other scripts Associations in Karnataka such as Maand Sobhann, Poetica and Karnataka Konknni Lekakancho Sangh, to work unitedly to hold the All India Konknni Maha Sabha in Goa very soon. “Currently, GRLA is in the process of forming cultural, youth and village groups, and we will invite all Goans to come forward in unity, and join these villages, and youth groups,” he said.
