Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada on Thursday said that the Centre is working towards streamlining e-visa facility for international tourists, a move that will significantly boost the tourism sector, especially for states like Goa.
Prasada, who is in Goa on a two-day visit, further said that the Union Budget includes the development of 50 tourist destinations across India through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Mode, with Goa expected to be a major beneficiary.
“We are working towards streamline e-visa facility for the foreign tourists who wish to visit the country,” he said while addressing a press conference in Panaji.
He emphasised Goa’s status as a flagship tourism destination. “Goa is our flagship tourism destination, and these initiatives will further enhance its appeal,” the Minister added.
Prasada said that the PPP model will facilitate the redevelopment of Goa’s beaches, heritage sites, and ecotourism locations.
“Loans will also be provided to develop eco-tourism resorts and homestays, with improved connectivity to major airports and international hub,” he announced.
Pharma hub
According to Prasada, Goa’s pharmaceutical sector, which contributes 12 per cent to India’s total pharma output, will receive expanded Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes and increased R&D funding. “This support will strengthen Goa’s position as a leading pharma hub,” Prasada said.
Fisheries boost
The fisheries industry in Goa will receive Rs 6,000 cr for modernising fishing harbours, cold storage, and infrastructure which will improve facilities for our fishermen and boost the sector,” Prasada stated. Prasada informed that the Udaan scheme’s extension will enhance regional connectivity, benefiting Goa’s airports making travel more affordable.
Sports infra
He also said that Sports infrastructure will be improved with Rs 3,000 cr allocated to Khelo India and Fit India programmes, supporting football and athletics in Goa.
The Healthcare coverage under Ayushman Bharat will be extended to taxi drivers, gig workers, and freelancers in Goa.
