Some residents have appealed to Loliem villagers to come forward and stop the alleged illegal tourism activities on Polem beach, much against the wishes of gram sabha resolutions.
In a common appeal to the people of Loliem-Polem Panchayat, some residents recalled that villagers had shown immense unity in passing unanimous resolutions at gram sabhas on two occasions against erection of illegal cottages, shacks, structures in their jurisdiction consisting of nine wards and particularly banning illegal and unauthorized shacks/structures from coming up at Polem beach.
"On two occasions, such illegal/unauthorized shacks/cottages/structures which had come up on Polem beach were demolished after agitation by people of Loliem-Polem Panchayat to ensure that the so-called shack culture did not bring uncultured activities like drugs and prostitution on Polem beach," states an appeal issued by Anand Naik, Deepak Pagi, Prassan Pagi and Ratnakar Naik.
"It is regretted that once again 12-15 illegal shacks/structures have forcibly been built by the culprits in the property belonging to local Devasthan on Polem beach in violation of CRZ norms, clearly disrespecting and undermining panchayat resolutions."
"Those who have erected these shacks/structures have also restricted beach entry to the villagers and visitors by erecting an iron gate on a traditional pathway and a footbridge. They have also created an illegal-parking zone for collecting parking charges," stated the appeal.
