Claiming that Fatorda is a recipient of crores of rupees worth of development works after the formation of the coalition government, TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai on Sunday boasted that the government has fast forwarded sewerage works in Fatorda to cover every nook and corner of the constituency.
Speaking after launching the Rs 7 crore sewerage scheme at Vidhyanagar-Gogol area of the city in the presence of former minister Luis Alex Cardozo, the TCP Minister said that he has managed to bring in Rs 50 crore sewerage works in Fatorda when the government has applied for a loan of Rs 200 crore. "Crores of rupees of government funds have started flowing into Fatorda after the formation of the new coalition government. The government has agreed to pump in Rs 50 crore worth of additional sewerage work in Fatorda when it has applied for a loan of Rs 200 crore," he said, while indicating that funds will not come in the way of Fatorda's development during the reign of the coalition government.
Saying that the government's avowed objective is to connect entire Fatorda to the sewerage scheme, Vijai made a fervent plea to the households to avail of the scheme saying that even the places of touristic importance in the state have still not been covered under the project.
"Now that the government has started the project, time has come to stop discharging sewage into drains and gutters," he appealed, while offering financial assistance to the needy and the poor in availing the connections.
MMC Vice-chairperson Tito Cardozo thanked the minister for fulfilling his promise to complete the project, even as he urged the people to avail benefits of the scheme by applying for the connections.
PWD Assistant Engineer Ganesh Velip said the area in and around the Sanchayani complex will be covered under the sewerage scheme. "Around 180-200 households would benefit from the scheme. It has cost the state exchequer Rs 7.45 crore," Velip said and urged the households to avail benefit of the special rates for house sewer connections.
